Art and Design

One of our Year 5 children painted a stunning country landscape this week. She used a range of brush strokes and the way the colours complimented each other was brilliant.

Church Flowers

Three incredibly artistic children from Duloe, with the help of some members from the local community, decorated St Cuby's Church this week with some magnificent flower decorations.

The children all made their own displays using a variety of flowers.

We would like to say a huge thank you to the children who have brightened up the church wonderfully.

Snakes, reading and art

Class 1 had a very interesting visitor this week as they were joined by a boa constrictor (Turbo and Giggle were kept well out of the way). The children learnt about the snakes diet and its natural habitat.

One of the best things about our bubbles popping is that we have been able to start our shared reading across the whole school. The children love reading to people from different classes and it fosters the family feeling within the school.

The EYFS outside area has also changed to create a role play area based on the story of 'The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch'. The children have Mrs Grindle's cottage to play in, a boat to sail in and even a pulley system to deliver the lighthouse keepers lunch!

History

Class 3 have had a delivery of new books provided by the Cornwall Library Service which all relate to their topic this half-term, 'What did the Greeks do for us?'

Physical Education

This half-term, Class 3 and Class 1 are lucky enough to be working alongside our Arena sports coaches. The children will be learning a range of athletics skills. This week we looked at running and how to build our stamina.

Bubbles popped

Bubbles have popped! We are delighted that our three bubbles have popped at Duloe and now all the children can play with each other at playtimes as well as having Collective Worship back together again. The children have loved mixing together again and it has made the school feel more like its normal self!

Maths & Design and Technology

As part of our 'What did the Greeks do for us?' topic, we made the ancient Greek recipe 'Baklava'.

We linked our learning in maths with our design and technology knowledge, using ratio to scale up and scale down the baklava recipe.

Sing2G7

Today Class 3 took part in 'Sing2G7'. Via TEAMs, our class were part of a global community of  12,000 voices from 18 countries.

Class 3 sang ‘Gee Seven’. The song points to the fragility of ‘our only earthly home’ and ends with an urgent message to G7 leaders to collaborate and take their responsibility seriously to each other and to the rest of the world.

Moor Day (in school)

Due to the terrible weather conditions on Monday we had to move our Moor Day away from Minions and host the event within the school grounds.

The children still had a wonderful time: lighting fires, orienteering and learning about the colours and sounds in nature.

A big thank you to all of our Arena leaders who led the sessions with the children.

Welcome Turbo and Giggle

This week we have welcomed some amazing new members to the Duloe family. Turbo and Giggle (named after a great deal of debate by the children) are our new school pets. At just over one year old, hopefully they will be with us for the next 99 years!

The two tortoises were donated to the school by Michelle, who was working at the school before and during lockdown. We would like to say a huge thank you for such a fantastic gift.

We would also like to say a massive thank you to Stan's dad who has built a 5 star home for Turbo and Giggle to roam around in.

Our new classmates are such a huge hit with the children and we are looking forward to learning all about them and making sure we take incredible care of them.

We also had a visit from a slightly older tortoise this week, which gave us an idea how much Turbo and Giggle will grow!
