We would like to say a huge thank you to Mole Valley Farmers for donating a Christmas tree to the school this year. Class 1 and Class 2, as part of their Design and Technology lessons, have created decorations to crown our glorious tree.
Class 3 have been very good boys and girls recently as they have been writing persuasive letters to Father Christmas. The children look at WAGOLL (what a good one looks like) examples of persusaive letters and then used our success criteria to make sure their letters were as persuasive as possible. The children did a fantastic job and their handwriting presentation for their final draft was excellent.
As part of their topic, 'Is everything you need in Cornwall?' Oscar and Seb, were inspired my their local history lessons and went off to see if they could discover St Cuby's well. Like two explorers, trekking through undiscovered land, they eventually found the well. What hidden gems can you find around Duloe?
This week we have started looking at Advent within our Collective Worship. Through resources provided by 'Faith at Home' and 'Big Start Assemblies' the children have been learning about the meaning and traditions of advent. The children have particularly enjoyed listening to the bible stories, for example, Simeon and Anna, who were racing to meet Jesus after his birth, the story of Elizabeth and Zechariah and Mary and Joseph's own journey to Bethlehem.
Today, Miss Carter and Miss Soady (trainee teachers from Plymouth University) led an English lesson on 'prepositions' within Class 3.
Miss Carter and Miss Soady have been with Class 3 for the past 2 weeks, giving the children extra support and helping them to engage with their learning.
To start, Class 3 had a discussion on what they thought a 'preposition' was - and they thought correctly! For the work, the class came up with a list of examples of prepositions, which can be seen in the picture above. From this, Miss Carter and Miss Soady then set the children the activity of having an object such as a beanbag and placing it in various areas within the school grounds to get a hands on learning experience of what 'preposition' really meant. The children engaged well, were very eager to learn about this topic and enjoyed being able to go outside for their English lesson!
From this, Miss Carter and Miss Soady have been able to understand in more depth the true role of a teacher within children's learning and have created a good starting point for their placement within Class 3 for the year ahead.
Class 1 have been learning about 3D shapes and their different properties. The children have carried out a range of activities and really enjoyed makes their own 3D shapes from marshmallows and cocktail sticks. They also enjoyed eating the marshmallows!
This week, Sports Coach, Jenny Nash, has been working witht the Year 6 children as part of their Bikeability course. The children worked on technique within school before safely navigating the roads of Duloe. Hopefully, we will have more children cycling to school as a result of the course.
Class 3 have been writing a discussion text which address the question: Is everything you need in Cornwall? The children drew on their own experiences as well as watching clips from the recent documentry about Cornwall by Simon Reeve. We discussed the natural wonder of Cornwall and its proud history, but also tackled the issues of low-wages and the amount of children who are living below the poverty-line within the Duchy.
Class 3 have been learning about Hindu's as part of their Religious Education. They created board games to understand the path Moksha. Mosksha is Hindu's ultimate goal to be with God.
As part of their topic, Is everything you need in Cornwall? Class 3 visited the Stone Circles in Duloe to look at them as a primary artefact beofe they carried out their own research on stone circles and their significance.
