On Friday 13th December, the children and staff wore their Christmas jumpers to school to raise money for the Save the Children charity.
Class 1 take part in 'Wild Tribe' every Tuesday afternoon. This week they have been using saws to cut pallets which were then used to create 'Wild Tribe' signs which highlight the qualities the children are developing when learning during these sessions. It is great to see the children still learning outside despite the rather chilly weather!
Class 2 have been using their mathematical skills to great effect. They have been calculating the perimeter of stars which will then be used as decorations within our Christmas performance. Class 2 really are a bunch of stars!
What a magical service! For our First Wednesday Worship of December, Rev Chloe led a fantastic Chris-tingle service. The children sang beautifully and a selection of children read and said prayers to the congregation. All 90 children then collected their Chris-tingle oranges from the alter and and had them lit. It was wonderful to see so many family members attend the service as well. What a great way to start our festive celebrations.
Duloe School have won the 'Name the Van' competition organised by the Cornwall Educational Library Service. As winners we received an extra visit from the library van and got even more free books! We were also lucky to have a visit from one of their star librarians who read stories to the classes.
We would like to say a huge thank you to Mole Valley Farmers who donated a Christmas tree to us this year. We decided to decorate the tree based on a 'plastic free' theme. The oranges and lemons were sliced and slowly cooked on a low heat to create our decorations. A picture of our tree is at Mole Valley farmers where you can vote for it in their Christmas Tree Festival. The winning school will receive £50 of vouchers.
One of our Christmas traditions at Duloe, is our older children visiting the Jubilee Village Hall and singing to members of the community. The children sang a range of carols and the staff received some fantastic feedback about how wonderful the children's behaviour was and the quality of their singing.
As part of their Roman topic, Class 2 have been designing and making clay pots. The children looked at historical designs and then created their own designs using them as inspiration.
During our Creative Day, professional musician, Matt Douglas, worked with the children to perform a song the children had written about protecting the environment. Matt was really impressed by the children's creativity and their singing skills. Well done, Class 2.
Local artist Sean Hewitt worked with all of the children during the course of the day to help develop a 'reflective garden'. The children produced a range on artwork inspired by the artist, Andy Goldsworthy. By using a range of natural materials the children created a range of original and innovative art.
Class 3 took their coordinates learning outside this week. They used a satellite image of the school grounds which had a coordinates quadrant over the top. Then they plotted significant parts of the school on the grid.
