Our Nursery has been very busy this half-term with lots of different learning opportunities. The children have built castles, painted animals and had lots of fun joining in with Class 1's music lessons, to name only a few.
Children from Duloe school were invited to Brunel Primary (another Bridge school) this week, to watch a lecture by the Royal Institute. The lecture, entitled 'It is Rocket Science' was highly interactive and inspiring for the children. A huge thank to Brunel school for the invitation.
Class 3 have been exploring the question, 'Why do Hindu's try to be good?' They have been learning about Brahman and Atman. The children dissolved salt into water to demonstrate that Atman is everlasting.
As part of Class 3's enquiry question: 'Is Space the final frontier?' the children have developed their drawing skills using pencils and pastels. The children were very lucky to have local artist, Ellie Russell, give them a masterclass to help them with their drawing skills.
Class 3 went through the 'door' and made apple cakes, which they sold to raise funds for MacMillan Cancer. The children went apple picking at a local farm, belonging to one of our families and made the cake with the apples they harvested. It total they raised an amazing £62.45
Can cave art speak to me? Class 2 have been exploring the Stone Age. In true Stone Age style, we gathered our own apples, which we stewed to recreate a prehistoric diet. We have recreated cave art using our hands as stencils, made replica fossils, and the children enjoyed painting an image that would tell someone in the future an interesting fact about us. We explored many areas of Stone Age living ready to move into the Iron Age next half term.
Class 3 headed back to school last night to enjoy a space themed evening. They watched a space movie (with popcorn and lemonade) and then toasted marshmallows on a fire outside. Unfortunately, the weather meant that our planned star gazing wasn't such a success! However, the children were still able to display their willow planet lanterns in the darkness. A really enjoyable evening!
Today in school, there will be a special Collective Worship at 10am to mark the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Bishop of Truro, Bishop Philip, has shared the following words:
“I am greatly saddened to hear the news of the death of Her Majesty The Queen. She was born to a unique vocation, and it was one she took on with utmost seriousness. Her long reign spanned some fundamental shifts within our society – among them seismic changes to the way we, as a society, view both the monarchy and religion. And yet throughout that time she bridged different worlds and epochs in a remarkable manner and in way that provided a rare thread of stability and consistency. That speaks volumes about the faith which was the sure foundation of her life. She was not merely a titular figurehead in her role as Supreme Governor of the Church of England, but someone with a strong, firm, foundational and personal faith.
As Queen, she was the very embodiment of the virtue of duty: a sense of duty founded firmly on her faith. Her commitment, stamina and wisdom were rare, unquestionable and deeply admirable. She has shaped all our lives in incalculable ways. We mourn her passing, and give our God great thanks for her.”
Gracious God, we give thanksfor the life of your servant Queen Elizabeth, for her faith and her dedication to duty.Bless our nation as we mourn her deathand may her example continue to inspire us;through Jesus Christ our Lord.Amen.
