What another fabulous week with beautiful weather.  The children have been working so hard on their learning this week.

Our reception have been creating some independent writing all about ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’ and in maths they have been exploring 3D shape.

Year 1 and 2 have been continuing their fantastic English work all about instructions.  They have been writing instructions on how to grow a unicorn after planting their magical seeds.  In maths year 1 have been developing their skills in multiplication and division by grouping and sharing objects.  year 2 have been continuing their learning all about fractions and have been recognising and finding 1/2, 1/4, and 3/4.

We had a great PE lesson up at the field where the children continued to develop their team work skills by completing different challenges.

Next week we will be practising for the ‘Bridge School Games’ which we be taking place after half term and the children from Tregeagle are going to be the teachers.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend and get to enjoy the beautiful weather.

We started the term by talking about what we thought we'd need to do to grow plants. We then watched a short story which explained how to grow a bean. We then planted some beans. We learnt about honey bees and why they’re important. We also learnt about how and why they make honey. As we found out that they need flowers we decided to plant some sunflowers. We also did lots of bee activities including making bee models, bee puppets and painting pictures of bees and flowers. We then used our phonic skills to write sentences about bees.

The following week we went on a minibeast hunt during forest school and looked closely at what we found. We identified what they were and then asked questions about them. We then watched some short video clips and looked at some non-fiction books to find the answers to the questions we asked. We wrote sentences about them and sorted pictures into sets according to whether they were insects or not.

Over the last week we've been focusing on how to be a good friend. Myself and Mrs Feakins have modelled various scenarios and the children have discussed whether we were being good friends or not. They then came up with ideas of how we could be better friends. They were then given various activities to do with a partner where they had to focus on listening to each other and helping each other. I was very impressed with how they worked together to create minibeast pictures. They were all very kind and worked together brilliantly. There have been many other opportunities for the children to work together during continuous provision.

In PE we've been learning to throw and catch beanbags accurately by putting one foot forward. We've been enjoying getting outside and have been playing football, building obstacle courses and practising riding 2 wheeled bikes. I'm so impressed with the children's determination as many of them can now ride these without stabilisers.

Another busy week has passed at Copper Valley. On Thursday we joined the rest of the Nation to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe day. Some of the Juniors joined a webinar to learn about VE Day along with hundreds of other schools across the country. We talked about how thankful we were that we hadn't experienced what war was like and how important and precious peace is. We all enjoyed a picnic lunch in the style of a 'street party'.
On Friday the Year 1 class enjoyed a trip to Burrator and visited the Discovery Centre there.
The sun shone brightly in Callington on Saturday as they celebrated the annual Mayfest. This year the theme for the giant was flying creatures. We had a fabulous ostrich with an incredibly tall neck We also had some colourful bugs to dance around alongside our big bird. Thank you to Mr and Mrs Symons and Oli for helping to transport the ostrich to and from the school as it was no mean feat! Thank you to Ivy, Imogen, Charlie, Oscar, Sophie, Henry, Freya, Serena, Aria, Ethan and Logan  who took part in the parade and represented the schools brilliantly. Additional thanks go to Miss Thomas, Mrs Wright,  Mrs Cansdale and Mrs Symons for also taking part in the procession.
Recent fundraising efforts by your good selves has resulted in a new football kit for the upper juniors (The one which Mrs Pearce got for us is sized for the lower juniors.) I thought that you might like to see it being modelled by some Y4 pupils - who will soon be upper juniors!

w/e 9.5.25

What a fantastic week we’ve had in Daymer Class!

The highlight was undoubtedly our celebration of VE Day. The children took part in a meaningful and insightful assembly, reflecting on the importance of peace and remembrance. This was followed by a joyful picnic lunch on the school field, where everyone enjoyed time together in the sunshine, marking the day in a special and memorable way.

In English, our focus has been on enhancing descriptive writing. The children have been exploring the use of figurative language and expanded noun phrases to bring imaginary settings to life. It’s been wonderful to see their creativity flourish as they crafted vivid and imaginative descriptions, using language to transport their readers to far-off, magical places.

Our Maths learning has taken different directions for each year group. Year 3 have successfully wrapped up their work on length and perimeter and are now diving into fractions with great enthusiasm. Year 4, meanwhile, have started an exciting new topic on angles and triangles.

In History, we’ve been exploring the fascinating period of change and continuity between the Iron Age and the Anglo-Saxons. The children have been comparing aspects of daily life, culture, and settlement, developing a deeper understanding of how societies evolve over time.

PSHE this week focused on resolving conflicts and how to act respectfully during disagreements with friends. These sessions provided valuable strategies for handling arguments and promoting positive relationships.

In RE, we continued our learning about the Muslim faith, with a particular focus on Ramadan. The children have been thoughtful and inquisitive, asking meaningful questions and developing respect for different beliefs and practices.

Science lessons carried on with our topic of magnetism. The children have enjoyed investigating how magnets work and conducting hands-on experiments to explore magnetic forces.

In Computing, we continued learning about emails—how they work, how to use them safely, and their importance in modern communication.

Our PE sessions with the Argyle Community Trust coach have been filled with energy and laughter. The focus has been on athletics, with children developing key skills through fun and engaging games. It’s been great to see their confidence and teamwork grow.

Finally, in Design and Technology, we’ve been using 3D nets to support our ongoing castle design project. The children have been applying their mathematical understanding in a practical way, using their nets to create models and develop their ideas. It’s been a rich and rewarding week of learning across the curriculum.

Thank you for your continued support—have a lovely weekend!

Summer Term
Thursday 8th May
Trip to Plymouth Argyle and Central Parc

On Thursday 8th May the children in Year 2 and Year 3 went on a fantastic trip to Plymouth. We started our day with a Stadium Tour of Plymouth Argyle. It was amazing to have a look around the pitch and to find out more about the history of the Argyle football team.
After this we walked into Central Parc and we were then able to spend the afternoon enjoying the play equipment and having lunch. At 12pm we took part in the 2 minute silence to acknowledge the 80th Anniversary of VE day.

Landaviddy have had a splendid week! In PE, we have been working on our Team Building skills, thinking carefully about how we communicate to one another and show respect. We had some great fun today playing some relay games and guessing which animal we were. Well done to Frankie's team, who worked well together, showing excellent sportsmanship.

In DT, we have been thinking carefully about nutrition and how we can keep our diet balanced. We came up with some of our own balanced diet menu's. In Geography, we looked at hot and cold climates and learnt the difference between climate and weather.

Next week, we will be writing our persuasive letters to King Charles about plastic pollution! I can't wait to see what you write and the reasons you give!

Please make sure you bring in your swimming kits next week, as we will hopefully be using the pool!

We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday.

We have had a lovely week in Chaipel, again.
Sean came in to show us how to create a sallow background for our artwork. The children then put their paired work back together and the results are absolutely amazing! We look forward to seeing what is in store for us next, as part of our Orwell Project.

VE DAY
On Thursday, we celebrated 80 years since the end of WWII in style, dressing up in red, white and blue and sharing a lovely afternoon tea party with our parents/carers. It was really moving to see our school community come together and enjoy this special occasion. Profits raised will be donated to the Royal British Legion.

ENGLISH
Our Tudor narrative draft copies are complete. We will be editing and improving next week before writing up our best copies. I can't wait to read them all.

It has been last minute Maths revision for the Y6s - going over statistics, area and volume. They have all be amazing and I have told them to just go home and enjoy the weekend - no SATS stress is required! I'll see everyone on Monday at 8am for bacon sandwiches and milk/orange juice! Year 5s have completed their shape unit and will be moving onto decimals next week. They have been a credit to Chaipel whilst the Y6s have been revising: I am so very proud of them all.

CONGRATULATIONS to our People of the Week, Max B and Imogen for demonstrating our school values and being a role model to their peers.

So, enjoy the weekend and its warm weather and see you all on Monday!

We had lots of celebrations this week, including red, white and blue activities in Nursery  to help us remember those who have helped to keep us safe during the World wars.

We talked about what colour our British flag is and had a go at making our own; there were lots of Union flags around school and Nursery so we had lots of clues to help us.

Our snack was even made up of red, white and blue fruits; it looked very colourful and was very tasty.

What a fun start to summer term.

This week we have been very busy, we introduced the children to VE Day in a simple and age-appropriate way. We talked about peace, friendship, and why people celebrate this special day. The children made red, white, and blue flags, enjoyed a pretend street party with music and dancing.

This weeks sound of the week was 'g',  g g girl, the children have enjoyed looking at words that begin and end with the g sound. I am so impressed the children have really tried to learn to write all of their sounds. We have seen them go up to the box and have a go on their own. They did fabulous jobs and it's lovely to see them wanting to add this into their play. They have also asked for numbers to trace.

We had our first forest school session of the year today, and everyone loved it. We went out with reception class and everyone worked well as a team.

Come back next week to see what we get up to.

TALLAND CLASS BLOG: 9.5.25

Happy Friday everybody. We hope you have had an amazing week!

We have crammed a lot into four days of learning AND we even got a VE Day Picnic PARTY... WINNING!

Thank you all so much for the Picnic Party. The children had an amazing time and the cakes were incredible!

Maths:
Year 5 have been looking into negative numbers and what pieces of apparatus might require negative numbers on their scale...
Year 4 have completed shape and have just begun their second decimal unit.

English:
Next week we will dive into some poetry based on nature. I'm looking forward to see how these turn out!

Geography:
Talland looked into the work of meteorologists and how they measure rain, wind direction and speed and cloud coverage.

Art:
Children continued with the Orwell Art Project. They have now coloured in their up-scaled copy, tea-stained it and crumpled it slightly to give their work a vintage finish.

PE:
Swimming was great fun as ever! Talland have some real fishes in the ranks! Most of them have shown that they can travel the full length of the pool, unaided, on both their front and back.

TIMES TABLES:
As year 4 have their Times Table Check coming up in about 4 weeks time, we have been hitting the numbers hard. Over the past 3 weeks, we have been revising the 6, 7 and 8 times tables. Talland have been fantastic. Next week, we will investigate the 9 times table. Please, please please, practice times tables with your children. The progression over the last 3 weeks has been unbelievable... with your input on top, the children will come into this feeling ready and confident. By going over their 6, 7 and 8 times tables would be fantastic!

CONGRATULATIONS to lily and Flora for earning their next badges in 99 club and well done to Zac for being noticed for his excellent manners and behaviour.

That's all from us. We hope you have an incredible weekend.

Signing off from Mr. Langley, Mr. Bishop and Miss. Colton.

Friday 9th May

Some of this week’s learning:

In English this week, the children have been writing dictated sentences. We have continued to explore Mr Gumpy’s Outing and the children have worked really hard to remember a sentence, think about their phonics and write their sentence. The adults are so impressed.

In maths this week we have been exploring numbers within 20 but have also been exploring taking away within 20. The children have been using mathematical sentences and are amazing!

During outdoor learning this week, we went on a hunt for lots of sticks in our field, we then used twine and worked as a team to make garden stick men! The children were amazing at helping each other to wrap the twine around the sticks. They then made them even better by using leaves to decorate their stick men.

The children have also been using water colours to paint butterflies, making bean plant life cycles , decorating flowers and so much more!

On Thursday we explored what VE day was and what it means to so many people. We went outside at 12:00 to hold a 2-minute silence to remember and then Mr Whittaker played The Last Post on his trumpet. Today all of our resources were based on VE day ready for our VE Day picnic!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend

This week we have been enjoying our book ‘Kitchen Disco, a funny rhyming book where the fruit comes to life and parties in the kitchen after dark!

We had our own kitchen disco dancefloor and have enjoyed lots of disco music and dancing.

The children have been identifying healthy and unhealthy foods and with a couple of new songs we have been singing, do not be surprised if you hear the lyrics ‘vegetables and fruits, are really very yummy, so put them in your tummy’ being sung by the children.

The children sorted pictures of foods into the correct groups, and we talked about how we eat lots of the healthy foods, and a little of the unhealthy.

We had a pineapple to look at and create through paint, the children used sponges and their fingers to paint with, then painted their hands green to make the pineapple top.

Outside we are all excited to have our sandpit filled with sand again, it has been very popular!

Next week we will start to plant some seeds of some fruits and vegetables for the children to look after and watch them grow in our garden area.

We hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

At nursery this week we have started to explore insects and are looking at our enquiry question "Are insects important?"
The children have been looking at lifecycles and what happens to caterpillars and they made some beautiful butterflies with the paint. They have been using language heard in the story of the "Hungry Caterpillar" such as cocoon.
They have made fingerprint ladybirds in the art area.

As well as "The Hungry Caterpillar",  the children have explored and have been learning different facts about insects in a range of books.

In phonics, we have been talking about the garden centre. The children have been naming and sorting different gardening items in a game of "What's in the basket?" and have assigned different instrumental sounds to different flowers.

In the maths area we have been sorting and comparing a range of objects and the children have been counitng how many in different sets.

On Thursday we celebrated the anniversary of VE Day. We enjoyed a morning snack with different foods including strawberries and cucumber sandwiches! and the children made a commemorative plate to take home.

We look forward to more fun next week.
Have a great weekend

Julie and Sarah

The weather really has taken a turn for the better this week with the children able to take advantage of our amazing grounds. It's been another great week with lot of things going on to tell you about. Firstly I would like to thank everyone for their support of the Lego team who travelled to Harrogate last weekend to compete in the national finals. We were so proud of them to reach the final and were over the moon with the fact that they came 8th in the whole country in the coding section of the competition. We could not have done it without the support of the school community and it really shows what a special place Darite can be. To find out more details of this superb achievement, please look at the previous blog post Thursday saw VE day with the whole school celebrating the end of the Second World War in Europe. We learned all about the day, why it was special and why it still matters today. We also learned from a pupil that Jersey (one of the only places to be occupied by the Axis powers in WW2) has a "Liberation Day" holiday on the 9th as the news of the end of the fighting didn't reach the island until a day later. We also sampled some delicious flag biscuits to celebrate. We also welcomed Tom from the UK Parliament Engagement Program to KS2 this week. He came in to talk about the way parliament works, how laws are passed and why the building is so important. Thank you to Tom for giving up his time.
