Class 2 are enjoying our music sessions with Mrs Butlin. They have been composing their own sequence of 8 beats and moves. They have explored how they might record it on a visual score- lots of clapping and thigh slapping! This week they were even able to perform each others by reading the different scores! Next week, we start to transfer the beats to traditional crochets and quavers.

Following on from our focus last year on
‘courageous advocacy’ this week we held a whole-school vote to decide upon a
school charity for the year. The children learnt about four different
charities: Jerimiah’s Journey, the RNLI, Cancer Research UK and ShelterBox. As
part of our learning about democracy, we then held a vote where the children
selected which charity they would like to support. After a very tense and close
count, ShelterBox was announced as our charity for the year. Going forward, the
children will learn more about the great work this charity does, and we will
explore opportunities where we can support them as a charity.

This week, we have heard that Duloe has been
successful in our application to the Church of England to become a Growing
Faith Learning Hub. We are one of only a handful of schools across the country
to be selected for this scheme and it is a huge honour to be selected after a
lengthy process. Being selected demonstrates our commitment to our Christian
distinctiveness as a Church of England School and our desire to continue to
build on this. Becoming a Learning Hub also comes with a sizeable financial
injection for the school which will allow us to develop some innovative ways of
linking Church, school and home. The partnership starts officially in January,
and I look forward to updating you on the next steps in this journey.

This morning Class 1 walked over to the ancient site of Duloe Stone Circle. Following our art lesson from Ellie Russell – Hsieh we sketched the monument into our sketch books and looked in wonder at the stones. We are so excited to begin our history work based on our enquiry question ‘How has Duloe changed since it’s stone circle was created?’

What a wonderful art afternoon Class One had in the sunshine with a visit from local artist Eleanor Russell-Hsieh. The children focused on the techniques of sketching with Ellie teaching the skills of hatching, blending and finding light and shade. Our budding artists loved exploring the range of sketch pencils and the effects the different grades had on their mark making. A highlight of the afternoon was the observational drawings which took place outside on our beautiful field.

During Collective Worship today, we were treated to an end of year performance by our talented guitarists Jago, William, Rosie, and Kensa. They strummed along to Olivia Rodrigo, The Beach Boys, and the Harry Potter Theme.
The whole school sang along as they played A Million Dreams from the Greatest Showman. A wonderful performance which showed all their hard work in lessons this year.

Class 3 enjoyed their Forest School Session on Wednesday. They were tasked with building dens using items they were given like tarp and rope along with any items they could find. We ended up with some very inventive dens! Next job was to build the fire and toast some marshmallows.
On Thursday, Class 1 worked in pairs to make a den for a soft toy using items they could find. We then had story time around the campfire and of course, more marshmallow toasting.

Earlier this year, we focused on the question 'How can we make the world a better place?' Class 2 were fascinated by the role and the importance of trees and decided they would like to be courageous advocates and plant some of their own. We had 10 trees, kindly donated to us, and were able to plant them on the rec ground for everyone to enjoy. We look forward to watching them grow and flourish over the years.
A big thank you to Mrs Massey-McCarthy, Mrs Russell-Hsieh and Duloe Recreation Ground for their support.
